OUR MISSION

Invention-Translation-Regeneration

The Shu-Tung and Alice Li Foundation, Laboratory for Tissue Engineering Research, is dedicated to the research and translational development of tissue equivalent products to advance the regenerative treatment of difficult to heal tissues and organs.

MOTIVATION

It is generally recognized that tissues and organs have the intrinsic capability to regenerate, provided that the environment is conducive to regeneration. Over the last 30 years, Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR), a treatment employing a resorbable extracellular matrix scaffold, has contributed significantly to today’s regenerative medicine. Despite these advancements, limited capabilities still exist under the GTR framework.

Through a tissue engineering approach, the Shu-Tung and Alice Li Foundation seeks to create specific biological environments that will favor the regeneration of defined difficult to heal tissues or organs.

At the Shu-Tung and Alice Li Foundation, our aim is to develop advanced extracellular matrices, in combination with cells and bioactive molecules, to form tissue-like matrix structures, either in-vitro or in-vivo, to induce and promote new functional tissue regeneration with superior efficacy than the currently marketed products.
